The piece
A standing amethyst geode cut and polished at the mine in Ametista do Sul, southern Brazil. Deep violet at the tips grading to milky quartz at the base, with a calcite-cut rim left rough so you can see the rock it came out of. Every cathedral is weighed, measured and photographed individually — you receive the one you choose, not one like it.
On buying amethyst honestly
A great deal of amethyst sold in the West is heat-treated citrine, dyed quartz, or genuine amethyst bought through four intermediaries who each took a cut the miners never saw. Ours comes directly from a cooperative at Ametista do Sul that cuts and polishes on site — which is why it costs more than the same stone on a marketplace, and why the people who dug it were paid for the finishing as well as the digging.
