The piece
A hanging censer in solid brass, pierced with the seven classical planetary sigils so the smoke leaves in a legible pattern. Sized for charcoal discs and loose resin, with a removable inner cup for ash.
Practice
Lighting well
Light the charcoal at one edge only and wait for the spark to travel the whole disc — three or four minutes. Resin on a half-lit coal smells of burnt sugar and nothing else. Add resin a grain at a time.
Safety
- Hang clear of fabric and low ceilings
- The bowl reaches 200 °C — use the chain
- Ventilate; resin smoke is heavy
- Never leave a lit coal unattended
